Brief Discription

Prayagraj Power Generation Company Limited has established 3 x660 MW capacity coal fired supercritical thermal power plant at Bara tehsil of Allahabad district in the state of Uttar Pradesh (India). The plant is situated on NH- 76 at about 40 kms from Allahabad (Prayagraj) city in south- west direction. The nearest railway station BEVRA (Allahabad- Manikpur Section of NCR) is approx. 3 km from site. All the three units 1,2 & 3 has achieved COD on 20 Feb 2016, 10 sep2017 and 26th May 2017 respectively. The plant has been acquired by M/S Renascent Power Ventures, a 100 % subsidiary of Resurgent power ventures on 4th December 2019.

Techanical Details

TCE was Owners engineers responsible for engineering of the plant packages along with QAI compliance requirements. The major vendors for plant are - BHEL for BTG & ESP, L&T for 765/400 KV switchyard & CHP. The steam generator is of supercritical technology, corner pulverized coal fired, single reheat, balance draft design. Steam turbine is 3000 rpm tandem-compounded, single reheat condensing type, regenerative feed water heating with uncontrolled extractions, Single HP double flow IP & LP cylinders configuration. Boiler & auxiliaries are supplied by M/s BHEL through technology transfer from M/s Alstom and turbine-generator (TG) & auxiliaries are supplied by M/s BHEL through technology transfer from M/s Siemens. Generator is 3000 rpm, 3 phase rated for 0.85 (lagging) power factor and 21000 V terminal voltage.

Coal Sourcing Arrangement

PPGCL has executed Fuel Supply Agreement (FSA) with Northern Coalfields Ltd (NCL) for supply of coal (ACQ) of 6.96 MTPA. Coal handling facility consists of 4 Nos. Wagon tipplers & 4 No. crushers. System is provided with all modern equipment like Inline magnetic separators, metal detectors, dust suppression and extraction system to ensure un-interrupted coal for firing.

Water Supply Arrangement

Water required for the Plant is drawn from Yamuna River. River Water intake Pump House is installed at Yamuna riverbank (approx. 17 Kms distance) and necessary power for the pump house is provided from the power station itself through a 33 kV over headline. PPGCL has laid a pipeline along the route to ensure uninterrupted supply of water to reservoir at plant location.

Power Evacuation System

Power evacuation is being done through double circuit of 765 kV & double circuit of 400 kV transmission line connected to Manipuri end Rewa road (Allahabad) of UPPTCL. A 400 kV switchyard also constructed with suitable 765 kV and 400 kV Interconnecting transformer. 765 KV Circuit no. 1 is in under construction. Existing double circuit 400 kV network and circuit no. 2 of the 765 kV transmission line is capable of evacuating entire power generated from the plant.

Power Selling Arrangement

PPGCL has signed a long term (25 years) PPA with the 5 distribution utilities (MVVNL, PVVNL, PUVVNL, DVVNL & KESCO) of the state of Uttar Pradesh for sale of 90% of power generated. The same is now being executed through UP Power Corporation Limited (a subsidiary of Govt. of U.P.). Balance power being sold by PPGCL in merchant market & bilateral basis arrangement
